Some charities start with meetings,
with clipboards, plans and tea.
This one started where hearts broke,
where no heart should ever be.

It started with Jamie missing,
with questions left behind,
with Chelsey trying to breathe again
through the worst kind of goodbye.

Leona stood beside that pain,
when words were hard to find,
and Mysterious Minds was born from grief,
but built with love and time.

Then Dawn came in with Mollie,
a loss no mum should know,
they helped her through that funeral,
so she helped the charity grow.

That says more than any speech could,
more than awards on walls,
when people saved by kindness
come back to answer calls.

Hull and East Riding know them,
not because they shout,
but because when lives fall into bits,
they’re the ones who turn up.

Not with polished little leaflets,
not with pity dressed as care,
but with messages at midnight
saying, “I know, and I’m still there”.

They help the ones still fighting,
when their head gets far too loud,
they point them towards the right support
before they hit the ground.

And when suicide takes someone,
and a family can’t think straight,
they help towards the funeral,
when grief has bills to pay.

That bit matters more than people know,
when your chest is full of stone,
because death is hard enough to face
without facing costs alone.

They don’t just count donations,
they count names, faces, tears,
they carry people through the days
that feel like fifty years.

Children get Christmas Eve boxes,
not just gifts wrapped up neat,
but proof someone remembered them
when life kicked out their feet.

A child who lost a parent
should not feel pushed aside,
so they make sure there’s love there
when Christmas hurts inside.

They’ve raised money through raffles,
walks, events and graft,
while still carrying their own grief,
and somehow giving back.

No wage. No easy headline.
No “look at us” parade.
Just unpaid hearts still showing up
for the difference to be made.

They won the National Diversity Award,
Community Organisation, Multi Strand,
but anyone who knows their work
already understands.

Awards are lovely things to hold,
but the real prize is clear,
it’s every family still standing
because somebody stayed near.

I know this from my own life,
not from something I have read,
because when we lost our Ben,
they helped with what came next.

And as an artist with my words,
I can only do my part,
to put some truth on paper
and send it from the heart.

Because some people talk of kindness,
then vanish when it’s real,
but Mysterious Minds walk into pain
that most folk cannot feel.

Jamie and Mollie are remembered
in every life they touch,
in every family held together
when the world becomes too much.

And Ben is in this too now,
in every step I take,
in every word I write for those
who bend but do not break.

They don’t remove the heartbreak,
they don’t pretend it’s gone,
they just stand there in the wreckage
and help you carry on.

That’s why their name means something,
why people trust that call,
because when you’re left with nothing,
they still see you through it all.

So this is for the families,
for the children, for the pain,
for every life remembered
that still deserves a name.

For Chelsey, Leona and Dawn,
for the work that never ends,
for every stranger held like family,
for every broken heart they mend.

Mysterious Minds is more than charity,
it’s love refusing to leave,
it’s grief rolled up in courage,
it’s hope with muddy sleeves.

And if their song is never walking alone,
then let the whole world know,
because they’ve walked beside so many
through places no one should go.
