A bloke from Hull who spent years keeping his words to himself. This is the story of how those words became music.
BEFORE THERE WAS MUSIC, THERE WERE WORDS.
I’m just a bloke from Hull.
I’ve worked all sorts of jobs over the years, raised three amazing kids, laughed more than I probably should have, lost people I never wanted to lose and, like everybody else, had life absolutely kick me up the arse more than once.
Writing became my escape.
I never sat there one day thinking, I’m going to become a musician.
Truth is, none of this was planned.
For years I wrote poetry that nobody ever saw. It lived on scraps of paper, in notebooks, on my phone and in my head. It wasn’t written to impress anyone. It was just somewhere to empty my thoughts when life got loud.
Looking back now, I wish I’d shared it sooner.
But maybe I wasn’t ready. Maybe the words needed to wait for the right time.
THE BEST THINGS I WRITE ARE USUALLY THE THINGS I'VE LIVED.
I don’t write fantasy.
I don’t make stories up.
If you hear one of my tracks, chances are there’s a piece of my life buried somewhere inside it.
Mental health. Family. Growing up.
Being a dad. Grief. Friendship.
Neurodivergence. The daft moments. The painful ones.
The ones that change you forever.
Life gives us nowt for free.
Sometimes it gives you memories you’d happily hand back if you could.
But every experience teaches you something.
Writing became my way of making sense of it all.
THE YEAR I STOPPED KEEPING THE WORDS TO MYSELF.
Eventually I reached a point where I thought…
Sod it.
If these words have helped me, maybe they’ll help somebody else too.
So I released them.
Those poems slowly became music.
One track became another.
Then another.
Before I knew it, Chris Rewired had gone from an idea to something real.
I still find it slightly mental that people all over the world have listened to words that spent years hidden away in a drawer.
REAL STORIES. NO FILTER.
My music doesn’t fit neatly into one box.
Some tracks lean into spoken word.
Some into alternative British rap.
Some drift towards indie and Britpop.
I don’t really care what shelf people put it on.
If the words connect with someone, that’s what matters.
Every track starts exactly the same way.
A thought.
A memory.
A conversation.
A line that refuses to leave my head.
Everything else gets built around that.
LEARNING THE REST OF THE CRAFT.
Writing the words was only half the battle.
I wanted to learn how to create everything else myself too.
So I built a home studio.
Now I’m learning vocals, production, recording, mixing, breathing properly and all the bits that go into making music from scratch.
I’m not pretending I’m already there.
I’m learning.
Making mistakes.
Getting better.
Figuring things out one session at a time.
I actually enjoy people seeing that side of it.
Because nobody starts out knowing everything.
IF IT HELPS ONE PERSON, IT'S WORTH IT.
I’ve never been interested in chasing fame.
Don’t get me wrong, it’d be brilliant if loads of people listened.
But that’s never been the reason.
If one track makes somebody feel understood…
If one poem starts a conversation…
If one person decides to keep going because they realised they weren’t on their own…
Then every late night writing session has been worth it.
That’s why I donate 80% of my music royalties and sales to charity.
The music is giving something back while it’s finding its own way.
THIS IS ONLY THE START.
There’s still loads I want to do.
More music.
More poetry.
More videos.
More stories.
More learning.
More mistakes.
Hopefully plenty more memories.
I’m swapping the original vocals for my own.
I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
And I’m documenting the whole journey as it happens.
No pretending.
No fake image.
Just real life, one track at a time.
